About The 2010 Petition to Break Borough Salary Contracts

In the latter part of June and early July, a petition was circulated in the Borough by Democratic Council candidate Thomas Vorbach. Many residents report that they were told the petition was a protest against future raises for municipal workers or for a wage freeze.

In truth the petition seeks to force the Borough to break existing contracts with its workers for 2009 and 2010. This action has already resulted in costly legal fees. The text and signatures of the original petition may be found here: SubmittedSalaryWagePetition07 06 10

On August 17, the same petition was resubmitted with new signatures. The Council met on August 18 to discuss how to handle the issue. The text of the second petition may be viewed here: SecondSalary&WageOrd-August2010

Mr. Vorbach, running for a seat on the Borough Council, points among his accomplishments running a successful petition drive. SLHeightsonline questions how successful it really was when both intitiatives were overturned by the council and neither pettition was successful in placing a question on the ballot.
